Sheila Mannes-Abbott
A Botanical Life 28/06/17-09/07/17 11am-4pm Wed-Sun & daily during holidays Awarded an art scholarship at the age of 13, Sheila Mannes-Abbott is recognised as one of the foremost botanical artists in the world with a career that lasted until her sad passing in 2014. Working from her home in Watchet, Somerset, Sheila Mannes-Abbott's contribution was celebrated with a retrospective at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in 2014. This is the first exhibition of her work since. Sheila was a founder member of the Society of Botanical Artists in 1986, a lecturer at Brunel University and was awarded several RHS gold medals for her work. Sheila was also a regular contributor to Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Her artwork is included in many important contemporary collections worldwide including the Shirley Sherwood Collection. Her work is also represented in the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, the Royal Horticultural Society's Lindley Library and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. This exhibition demonstrates her skill and great talent as a botanical artist but also follows her passionate campaigning for the integrity of the natural world in general. An incredible opportunity to see Sheila's work within her home town, the exhibition will also support a new publication on the artist due for completion next year. Giclée prints are available for sale. Download the press release |
